The abbey were still bitter after their defeats to the hands of Armagh the 2 previous years, they set out from the start to beat Armagh, it was close in the first few minutes but the Abbey managed to get a few early scores to settle nerves.
Armagh seemed as if they were having an off day or maybe under-estimated their opponents. The Abbey managed to keep taking their points and forgot about goals, 7 minutes from the end of the first half Armaghs midfielder suffered a serious knee injury and due to that the referee was forced to end the half early, and play was postponed until the ambulance had arrived.
During the break Ivanhoe students from austrailia arrived to watch the game as they were staying with some abbey players when they were here. In the second half the abbey showed no signs of letting up on their opponents with a hat trick of goals by cathal foy more or less but the game beyond Armaghs reach.
Abbey were still taking their points but late on in the game Armagh managed to stage a comeback due to frees being awarded to them, they were able to put them over, but it was too late the abbey were just to far ahead.
The abbey managed to win by 19 points in the end.
