Abbey CBS 0-9 St. Patrick's, Maghera 0-12
Maghera went into the game unbeaten in four years, it was up to the abbey to try and break that record with the match being held in Sarsfeilds. The abbey started the brighter of the two, scoring an early point, but maghera showed from the start why they had such a formidable recored.
It would take the very best of the Abbey 15 to overcome them. Maghera were very dangerous but did not make their dominance count as they kicked a lot of shots wide. Conal Gallagher stepped up for the abbey to take a 50, he put it straight over, to let the abbey inch just appoint behind Magera.
Late on in the second half Maghera had a lot of possession due to the Abbeys inaccurate kick passing, they made the abbey pay for this and went into the second half 3 points up. At the start of the second half maghera had 2 goal oppurtunitis but were blocked down by the abbey defenders.
Abbey had tightened up on their kick passing and were now forcing maghera back up into their own half. Half way through the second half it was a draw and it looked like the Abbey could just snatch victory from their rivals, but maghera managed to counter attack scoring numerous points in quick sucesion, the last 5 minutes Abbey were 3 points down, they had managed to push up on Maghera, but the newry men were very unfortunate hitting the post twice, Brendan mc kernans shot the closer of the two firing it at the bottom of the net but was just denied by the post.
The game finished 0:9 to Maghera 0:12
