St Pat’s Dungannon played their second game of the Mac Rory cup, seeking a win against, the team they have put out of the Mac Rory cup for the past two years, St.Michael’s Enniskillen. The conditions in Tattyreagh were bad and the wet ground meant handling was going to be poor on a day like this. The game however turned out to be a thriller and a real quality match, with a high score and some real highlights in the match. St. Pats started brightly with good running off the shouldering creating a score and a pointed free. St.Michaels then came good scoring three points in a row, with loose marking and loose passing being responsible for two points, while the other came fro ma goal chance witch Mc Reynolds saved well and was subsequently pointed on the rebound. It wasn’t all Enniskillen and Dungannon nearly got a goal as Gervin shot narrowly wide. The score was 0-2 St.Pats 0-3 St.Michaels. St.Michaels added another point. The academy added a point through a free, but this was very much against the run of play. Enniskillen then found a gap in the academy defence and a runner fisted the ball into the academy net. Dungannon and Enniskillen then traded, score able, wides. Enniskillen were making Dungannon pay from frees and after some indiscipline and dissent for m Dungannon a free was pointed. The academy then started to fight back and after some good distribution and passing Devlin was put in for a shot but was fouled by his marker to gibe Dungannon a penalty, which Morgan neatly placed in the net. Dungannon had now got their heads up and after a good ball to Mc Aliskey he dummied and ran with two markers bearing down on him to finish into the top corner of the net, to leave it 2-3 Dungannon 1-6 Enniskillen. The academy weren’t done and Kiefer Morgan hit the crossbar, denying him a goal. The Academy’s midfield dominance in this period had a lot to do with the period of good performance in the game, and after a clever forward run Mc Swiggan put over a point. Enniskillen added a pointed free, to stop the rot, but the academy quickly replied and emphatically with a goal, from a good run through the heart of Enniskillen’s defence who laid off the ball to support runner Corr who finished well past the keeper. This score finished the half at 3-4 Dungannon 1-7 Enniskillen. Dungannon came out and from the kick off, a flowing move resulted in another Gervin point. Enniskillen had settled themselves now and a freak goal chance came from nowhere, which they pointed. They then went a point up as a result of a fisted point, Again Dungannon levelled it, at 3-6 to 1-9, with a free fro ma tight angle from Kiefer Morgan. The same player repeated the trick, as the academy’s direct running drew frees. Enniskillen gained a point after some good build up play, and nearly got a goal only for Mc Reynolds to save from close range. Liam Gervin was really the standout player of the period and pointed to leave at 3-9 Dungannon to 1-10 Enniskillen. Enniskillen got close to getting another 3 pointer only for Mc Reynolds to save again and put it over the bar. Enniskillen added another point then. The academy brought in Deeney to bring some fresh legs to the game. Enniskillen seemed to up the pace and added another point, as the academy shot two wides in response. Enniskillen were slightly more economical hitting a wide and one point. The academy though started to play better passes to team mates and Kiefer Morgan was put in and managed to chip the goalkeeper to make it 4-9 Dungannon 1-14 Enniskillen. You would have been forgiven the game was over, but Enniskillen came up the field and pointed. This was truly a thrilling finish as Enniskillen gave good ball into the forwards, in the last minute of normal time, who managed to get a shot away and it somehow managed to roll past Mc Reynolds and into the net to draw the game. As the game entered injury it was do or die for either team, and probably the most influential player Liam Gervin stepped up to score the pressure point. The game finished 4-10 Dungannon 2-15 Enniskillen. This was a good win for Dungannon and was a fair improvement on their last performance, they are right back in the Mac Rory race. And with a little work on Conceding of frees and some discipline at the back the Academy have a good chance of stepping up this level of performance.
