St.Patricks Academy Dungannon 0-17 St.Colmans Newry 2-9
These two sides have had some great tussles during their school careers and this latest one was right up there with the best of them as holders St.Patricks Academy Dungannon made it through to the semi final of the Rannafast Cup after a hard fought win over St.Colmans Newry in a cracking encounter at the Eire Ogs ground in Craigavon on Monday afternoon.
The Academy played some excellent football in the opening half hour and they were full value for their 0-11 to 0-3 interval advantage. Team Captain Stefan Lavery was in superb form up front and along with John Loughran, Aidan McGarrity and Ryan Devlin they hit some quality scores, James Girvan and Shay McCartan on target for the Newry lads. On the restart Lavery increased Dungannon’s lead but a goal from substitute Sean McEvoy ignited a Colmans comeback. Loughran and Michael McGee traded points before corner forward Anthony Watters levelled matters with a second Colmans goal six minutes from time. It was anybody’s game at this stage but Dungannon showed great determination and resolve to finish the stronger with Lavery and midfielder Sean Molloy on target for a hard earned win. The holders now face St.Pats Armagh in this weekend’s semi final.
