BT Genius Bursary

Winners have been announced.

To demonstrate BT's commitment to our new GAA Ulster Colleges partnership, 5 annual bursaries will be awarded, each worth £1000. The BT Genius Bursary will celebrate everything that is ingenious about Ulster Colleges GAA – embodied in individual team members.

The bursaries will be awarded to 5 players aged 16 – 18 to help cover the costs of further education

Criteria

The BT Genius Bursary has been set up to support those players that demonstrate a unique balance of the 4 qualities below;

Inspiration

The player should be an inspiration to other students both in the team and off the pitch. Players may have overcome an injury or an event in their school / personal lives that has been particularly challenging and required dedication & perseverance.

Positive attitude

The player should display the attitude required to play sport at a professional level. This will include dedication to training, their team, the game and also their school. Players of this age will be faced with distractions from all areas of their life, they must have illustrated a mature and dedicated mindset when it comes to their chosen sport.

Brilliant Ability

The player should have shown outstanding ability and flair in their position. They should have demonstrated raw talent and shown the potential to play their sport at the highest level.

Generous Sportsmanship

The player should demonstrate the qualities of a good sportsman. This includes grace in defeat, courtesy to team mates and opponents, a strive to always improve, a team player and a someone who holds fair play in the highest regard.

Age & Situation

To be considered for the BT Genius Bursary, players must:

  • be aged between 16 – 18
  • be completing their final school year (whether leaving in year 12 or year 14)
  • be pursuing further / higher education in the following year

Nominations

If a coach is satisfied that a player(s) meet the criteria they can complete a nomination form which will be made available in April 2011.

The final decision will be made by an independent panel of GAA / BT officials and all decisions will be final.
