DANSKE BANK McFarland Cup
Knock retain MacFarland title
June 7, 2013
Danske Bank MacFarland Cup final :
Our Lady’s & St Patrick’s Knock 5-10 St Patrick’s Keady 2-9
Our Lady’s & St Patrick’s Knock broke aeway from St Patrick’s Keady in the last 10 minutes to retain the Danske Bank MacFarland Cup in Lurgan yesterday evening.
The sides were locked on 2-8 each after 50 minutes play, indeed it had been more or less score for score from the start. However Knock finished strongly with a 3-2 blast that left the opposition dead on their feet.
Oisín McKee’s goal in the opening half had hauled back an early lead of 2 points for Knock, and the sides went in at the break tied on 1-4 to 0-7, with Lorcán McCaughey finding the range on 5 occasions for Knock.
At the start of the second half, Ryan Coulter’s goal edged Knock ahead, but Keady hit back with a 39th minute goal from the excellent Paul Green at midfield.
With points from Green and Shane Morgan, it looked as if they might push on. However Seán Gilmore came back with a goal for Knock before the team’s late blast sealed the win.
Sub Tiarnan McMeel got the ball rolling with a goal, and a quick strike from Ryan Coulter followed, with his cousin Cathal completing Keady’s heartache with his side’s fifth goal 2 minutes from the long whistle.
