Abbey Win Opener

Thu 20th Oct 2011

The Abbey CBS embarked on the start of their MacRory campaign yesterday on what was a nearly waterlogged pitch in Pearse Ogs, Armagh.

Omagh started the game well and put the Abbey defence under pressure immediately and this trait followed through the first half with the Abbey finding it difficult to sustain the ball within their full forward line. It was clear that the right side of the pitch was heavily waterlogged and therefore the side playing from right to left had a greater advantage. A tight and tense affair in the first half seen the sides go in at the break at 03-01 in favour of Omagh.

The second half seen the Abbey gain the advantage of playing from right to left and they used this effectively. The Abbey turned a  0-3 to 0-1 deficit on its head by equalising to make it 04-04. Through the second half there was no clear favourite and only two frees from Cailum Comiskey and a goal from  Damien McKeown in the dying minutes of the game made the victory safe for the Abbey.
