DANSKE BANK McNamee Cup
CPC brush aside St.Pats Maghera
September 27, 2013
CPC took on Maghera in their 2nd fixture of the McNamee Cup on a chilly Thursday afternoon in Dunloy. Just back of an extremely convincing win against St.Marys Belfast Mr.Campbell and Mr.Herron’s outfit would not be lacking in confidence. And this showed in the opening half where CPC would hold Maghera scoreless and would also put 4.7 on the board inside the first 20 minutes. The first goal came from Lorcan Donnelly after a fine ball from Michael McGarry, this would set the tone for the rest of the match. A further 3 goals rattled in shortly after, 2 from Ronan ‘Hank’ McAllister and 1 from Paul Boyle with points coming from Michael McGarry, Conor McBride and Emmett O’Hara which would leave CPC firmly in charge at the turn around.
Halftime Score
CPC 4.7 Maghera 0.0
With the strong breeze that had been blowing in CPC’s favour in the first half now blowing in Maghera’s favour, it may have been foolish to suggest the game was over. None the less, CPC went about their business in the 2nd half as they had in the 1st scoring 4 goals in quick succession. The first coming from Paul Boyle after some great pressure in the oppositions 21 yard line. The 2nd goal came from Ruairi Og clubman, Hank McAllister, who pulled the ball into the net past the ever busy Maghera goalkeeper to complete his hat trick. The 3rd goal was scored by 1st year pupil Cathal Hargan who showed great composure in his finish, after some great forward play by Ben Tecky. The final goal of the game came from a 21 yard free which Conor McBride dispatched in to the back of the Maghera goal sealing the victory for CPC. This was a fine performance and result for CPC who look to continue their fine run against St. Louis Ballymena on Tuesday in Loughgiel.
Final Score
CPC 8.8 Maghera 0.3
How they played
The CPC back line demonstrated a bullish tenacity in every tackle and clearance, similar to what Ciaran Herron in his prime was renowned for. The forwards showed a certain silky style and panache, attributes many people would associate to co team manager Alex Campbell in his playing days.
