CPC edge past Knock

September 25, 2013

Cross and Passion College began their 2013/14 Mageean Cup campaign with a tricky away fixture to OLASP Knock.

First Half

After an edgy first 5 minutes, CPC began to settle with Conor Patterson and Cormac McClafferty registering the first 2 points of the game.  Knock instantly replied with a point from a free and again with a great individually worked point scored by the Knock full forward.

Some good points from both sides were taken during the midway point of the first half.  A superb point from wing half back TT Butler being the pick of the bunch.

Great work and excellent distribution of the ball by half back duo TT Butler and OD Laverty led to 3 goals scored in quick succession by Cormac McClafferty, Johnny McErlain and Shan McGrath which would leave CPC with an impressive lead at the halftime whistle.

HT Score

CPC 3.7  Knock 0.6

2nd Half

The 2nd half began with a point from a free won by Cecil Forde which was struck between the posts by Cormac McClafferty.  Knock replied with a point of their own from a placed ball but minutes later Ciaran ‘Butsy’ Butler would finish of a great move by firing the ball past the Knock goalkeeper into the back of the net leaving CPC firmly in charge with 20 minutes to go.

CPC cruised through the 2nd half with points scored by Shan McGrath, Donn Whelan, Johnny McErlain and Cormac McClafferty extending CPC’s lead.  However, this dominance would not last long.  The final 10 minutes of the game would be controlled by Knock.  When the previously quiet Knock corner forward stroked the ball into the back of the CPC goal on the 51st minute, the Knock side came to life.  Knock finished the game with 2 goals in the last 5 minutes.  If it wasnt for points from Cormac McAllister and Caolan McCaughan, CPC may not have came away from the fixture victorious.

Final Score

CPC 4.14   Knock 4.9

How they played

In the full back line Paddy Joe Graham was solid, not giving his man any breathing room throughout the entirety of the match.

OD Laverty put in a solid shift winning breaking and high balls as well as delivering good passes to the forwards.

TT Butler gave a man of the match display.  The classy wing half back broke up many attacks on the CPC defence whilst setting up many CPC attacks which resulted in scores.  He also stuck over a delightful point in the first half.

Caolan McCaughan was the pick of the forwards.  He started many attacking moves for CPC with his strong running and was a thorn in the side of the Knock defence during the game.
