MacRory League Abbey V Armagh

Wed 4th Nov 2009

Abbey CBS       3-2        St Patrick’s Armagh       0-7

In very difficult playing conditions in the Athletic Grounds in Armagh yesterday, Abbey CBS took their goal chances to pick up their first points in the BT MacRory Cup.

Armagh created more scoring opportunities over the hour, but left their shooting boots behind, while Abbey ‘keeper John McCullagh pulled off two great stops in the last five minutes to thwart a late snatch and grab.

It was a point each when Ryan Hudson blasted a superb Abbey goal in the 13th minute and he added a second four minutes later.

Pádraig Rafferty tagged on a couple of frees, but James McClean buried a third goal before the break for a six point interval advantage for the Newry side.

Although they only scored once after the break – another Patrick Quinn free – they weathered the second half storm to take the league points.

Abbey : Ryan Hudson 2-0, James McClean 1-0, Patrick Quinn 0-2 frees.

Armagh : Pádraig Rafferty 0-4 frees, Paul McGeown 0-2, Cormac O’Neill 0-1.
