Omagh CBS V St. Eunan’s Letterkenny
Venue: Healy Park, Omagh
Time: 6pm
Date: 22nd October 2009
The match was played on a still night at Omagh St. Enda’s Healy Park under lights with underfoot conditions slippy but on an excellent surface. Within the first seven minutes Omagh had registered eight scores, two of which rattled the onion bag from Corner Back Steafan Tierney and Midfielder Sean Warnock. St. Eunan’s eventually got their first score on the board eighteen minutes into the match with a point from a free but at this stage the contest was long over as the scoreline was reading 2-9 to 0-1 in favour of Omagh. Another five points before the end of the half for Omagh ended a very comfortable first half completely dominating every position of the pitch.
HT: Omagh CBS 2-14 V 0-2 St. Eunan’s Letterkenny
The second half began with a point within the first minute from St. Eunan’s but this proved to be their only score of this half until four minutes from time. Omagh rattled over point after point and another major from John Mc Cullagh demonstrated the gulf in class between the two teams. Omagh used all their available substitutes which allowed St. Eunan’s come into the game slightly more and they were rewarded with a goal four minutes from time but it only proved to be a consolation.
Omagh had ten different scorers proving that any player in any position is capable of taking a score but if they had converted half of their fourteen wides then the scoreline would have been even more damaging for Letterkenny.
FT: Omagh CBS 3-27 V 1-3 St. Eunan’s Letterkenny
Omagh will have gained little from this experience and will have to ward against complacency for their next match. It is also worth pointing out that St. Eunan’s were missing a number of important players. A defeat of this nature can be very demoralising on morale and hopefully they won’t suffer many defeats like this.
