BT Mageean Cup Match Report
Mon. 14th Sept. at Rossa GAA Pitch, Belfast
Competitive start for St. Patrick’s
St. Patrick’s Maghera 2-05
St. Mary’s Belfast 2-11
The BT Mageean Cup Senior boys’ hurling competition began for St. Patrick’s Maghera on Monday 14th September when they travelled to the Rossa grounds in Belfast to take on old rivals St. Mary’s CBS, Belfast. This was a very spirited effort from the Derry boys and although eventually losing by 6 points St. Patrick’s were leading the game entering the final 15 minutes of play. St. Mary’s though were to have the better of the closing quarter as they replied with a second goal of their own and added the insurance points to claim two league points in the competition. St. Patrick’s can be well pleased with their opening game, despite defeat, and if the players can reproduce and improve on the effort and commitment shown they may well meet up with St. Mary’s again in the knock-out stages.
Before then though St. Patrick’s must face competition favourites, Cross and Passion, Ballycastle and other games against St. Louis Ballymena, De La Salle, Belfast and Our Lady & St. Patrick’s Knock. The team will need three wins from these four games if they are to challenge for Mageean honours for the first time since October 2005.
St. Patrick’s Maghera 2-05
St. Mary’s Belfast 2-11
